POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Litigation Law Clerk to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group in our Toronto office. The successful candidate will be organized, able to multitask, adapt to changing priorities and possesses a high level of client-care with a confidential work approach.

Generally, the hours of work are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and subject to flexibility to meet client needs; pre-authorized overtime may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide support to the litigation practice group in all aspects of file management

Prepare litigation documents including motion materials, affidavits of documents, costs outlines/bill of costs, mediation memos, pre-trial memos

Utilize IPRO Suite of products and Relativity to process and manage case data including collaborating with lawyers and law clerks as needed

Review and summarize various productions received from clients, opposing counsel and external parties

Review examination for discovery transcripts to summarize evidence, prepare lists of undertakings, manage status of receipt of answers for opposing parties and client, including liaising with client to obtain answers to undertakings

Prepare briefs and other materials required for various hearing such as mediations, arbitrations, case conferences, court hearings, and trials for all levels of Court

Prepare documents to enforce judgments including writs of seizure and sale and garnishment proceedings

Communicate with counsel, court and clients as needed

Maintaining accurate dockets

Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

Completion of a Law Clerk Certification program or equivalent education

A minimum of 10 years’ litigation experience as a Law Clerk

Strong knowledge of the litigation process and procedures including the Rules of Civil Procedure, and the Courts of Justice Act

Working knowledge of the practice directions as required by the Superior Court of Justice

Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), InTapp (or comparable time recording application, iManage

Working knowledge of Case Centre (formally Caselines) and JSO portal for online court filings

Superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to tailor communications as required when dealing with clients, external counsel and internal team members

Superior organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail

Self-starter who is able to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure

Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently as well as contributing to the team

Ability to multi-task with demonstrated flexibility to handle competing deadlines and/or demands

Demonstrated commitment to privacy and ethical conduct.
