Director of Finance

Our client, a local nonprofit, is seeking a Director of Finance. This organization is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve and is hoping to find a Director of Finance who shares this vision and their values.

They are seeking a skilled and experienced Director of Finance to oversee all financial aspects of the organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director of Finance will play a crucial role in ensuring the fiscal health and sustainability of the nonprofit as they continue to expand their reach and impact. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in nonprofit finance management, excellent leadership skills, and a deep commitment to the organization's mission.

Responsibilities:

1. Financial Planning and Budgeting:

· Develop and implement comprehensive financial plans and budgets in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

· Provide strategic guidance and recommendations to the CFO and Board of Directors regarding financial matters.

2. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

· Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analyses.

· Conduct regular financial analysis and forecasting to inform decision-making and ensure financial sustainability.

3. Grants and Contracts Management:

· Oversee the financial aspects of grant applications and reporting, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and regulations.

· Manage contracts and agreements with funders, partners, and vendors, negotiating favorable terms when necessary.

4. Accounting and Compliance:

· Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure compliance with accounting principles, nonprofit regulations, and tax laws.

· Oversee payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable, and other financial transactions, implementing effective controls and procedures.

5. Audit and Risk Management:

· Coordinate annual financial audits and ensure timely completion of audit requirements.

· Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk management strategies and internal controls.

6. Team Leadership and Development:

· Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.

· Provide guidance and support to staff across the organization on financial matters as needed.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit finance management, with demonstrated progressive leadership responsibilities.

· Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, financial analysis techniques, and grant management practices.

· Experience overseeing audits, compliance, and risk management processes.

· Proficiency in financial software systems and Microsoft Excel; knowledge of ERP accounting software.

· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, board members, donors, and external partners.
