Leading in accord with the mission, values and vision of Gallagher Asphalt Corporation, the Asphalt Plant Operations Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Operations at the organization. This role is delegated full authority, consistent with the responsibility for the administration, control, direction and supervision of all processing plant and site operations (HMA and RAP Processing) at our Thornton, Joliet, Bourbonnais, and MAT Asphalt plants.

The ideal qualified candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience in construction and/or Industrial Plant, and Project Management. This is an on-site role at our headquarters in Thornton, IL.

Essential Functions of this role include the following:

Operational Excellence – Provide clear and consistent standards to plant personnel regarding plant operations, scheduling, material requirements, maintenance, safety, production, quality, housekeeping and records and reporting. Continually analyze processes for efficiency, stay informed on current technologies available and evaluate and implement justifiable innovative improvements. Proactively address problems in all areas of responsibility to minimize negative impact. Manage capital improvement projects within budgets and realize stated objectives.

Leadership - Setting clear and attainable goals for plant teams, and holding each team member accountable by inspiring, mentoring, training/development, providing feedback through regular communication, evaluations of direct reports and engagement. Motivate the teams to work to their highest efficiency to exceed quality control and operating division productivity and budget goals. Enforce all company policies and procedures. Develop personnel to reach their maximum potential. Improve collaboration between plants and all other departments. Recruiting new qualified team members as required. Participate in management group values based leadership training.

Scheduling and Coordination – Coordinate all Plants inputs and output with company construction work and retail orders. Coordinate with QC Personnel to ensure desired product quality is consistently achieved. Planning and coordination of plant maintenance, off-season repairs and capital projects. Make yourself available at any time (via cell phone) to contribute to problem solving.

Relationships - Promote and support good internal and external relationships throughout all divisions and departments of Gallagher Asphalt, with clients, and the general public. Routine positive, constructive communication with various organizational leaders to provide for the needs of the plants and build teamwork and collaboration across the organization.

Safety – Establish safety as the top priority for all plant personnel. Responsible for leading all Plant teams to implement and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Maintain awareness of, and compliance to all applicable regulatory requirements for the Plants, and be continually alert of employees’ level of safety consciousness.

Key Qualifications:

Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in construction and/or Industrial Plant OM&R, and Project Management, is preferred.

Education Level: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of training and work experience

Education Major: Mechanical Engineering preferred, other Engineering disciplines or other degrees considered based on previous work experience

Leadership experience (People and Projects)

High attention to detail

Driver's License with no restrictions

Planning and scheduling (Project Management)

Knowledge of equipment used to complete all phases of a heavy highway job

Construction math skills to estimate quantities for jobs

Safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, MSHA) and First Aid

Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity and establish a proactive approach to Values Based Leadership

Effective communication skills utilizing various means

Ability to build effective working relationships

Ethical decision making

High level of emotional intelligence

Conflict management skills
