APPLICATIONS AND REPORTING SPECIALIST

Reports to : Vice President, IT

Location : Fairfield, CT

Status : Exempt

Travel : <20%

SUMMARY:

Our global, innovative company is looking to complement our IT team based in Shelton, CT with an experienced APPLICATIONS AND REPORTING SPECIALIST to apply their skillset across a range of technical and functional areas, business teams and enterprise applications which include our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and ancillary systems, both internal and external.

The successful candidate will join a team that delivers a demanding level of IT services to our data-driven internal customers through a range of technologies and disciplines including reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, Tableau and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), as well as relational databases, ETL/ELT strategies, and scripting. Our primary database platform is MS SQL Server, which is used heavily in data exploration and report development tasks.

The role requires a self-driven, adaptable individual capable of analyzing and managing requests, gathering requirements, creating specifications and documentation, and managing issues by applying superior technical abilities in conjunction with clear and effective communications and self-guided project management, working closely with business analysts and database administrators.

As a publicly traded company, we are governed by SOX and auditability requirements that demand a methodical approach to maintaining software and a respect for SDLC practices including change management and producing required documentation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Design, develop and maintain Crystal Reports and data sources, with a strong understanding of report design principles, best practices, and scheduling capabilities.

· Assist project teams with technical issues in the initiation and planning phases of our standard project management methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.

· Design, develop and maintain complex SQL Server stored procedures, views, and functions. Must be proficient in both reading and updating the database.

· Usage of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and working experience in managing SQL Agent jobs and schedules.

· Craft and maintain reporting solutions and ensure the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of our reporting systems and data sources.

· Importing data into and exporting data from SQL server databases to a variety of external formats including CSV, XML, JSON.

· Environment configuration management, testing, implementation, applicable integrations, and production support.

· Keep a pulse on industry trends and best practices in reporting tools and technologies, recommending innovative solutions to enhance reporting capabilities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

· Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science or equivalent field experience. Master’s degree preferred.

· Extensive technical experience with Crystal Reports containing subreports.

· Microsoft SQL Server programming, database navigation, and administration fundamentals.

· Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

· Senior analysis, investigative, problem solving and communication skills.

· Deep SQL knowledge, including query optimization techniques and fundamental database administration tasks.

· Demonstrated knowledge of relational databases, structured analysis, and data design.

· Comfortable working with stakeholders and executives on project management.

· Ability to pivot between project leadership and support tasks.

· Ability to run independently with projects from inception to delivery.

· Functional ERP exposure, especially using Syspro (ERP).

· Willingness to mentor and train.

OPTIONAL AND DESIRABLE SKILLS:

· Industry experience in sales, finance, distribution, and manufacturing, and forecasting.

· Working familiarity with SDLC principles, change control, source control.

· Crystal Reports scheduling applications and options.

· Reporting and analytics tools, especially Tableau, and data visualization skills.

· SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

· SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

· SQL Server database administration (DBA) skills

· Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and operations.

· Familiarity with application integration concepts and experience integrating reporting systems with other business applications.

· Master data management.

· Visual Studio.

· Web development, .Net

COMPLEXITY/PROBLEM SOLVING:

· Position deals with a variety of problems and sometime has to decide which answer is best. The question/issues are typically clear and requires determination of which answer (from a few choices) is the best.

COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

· Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues.

· Provides occasional guidance, some of which is technical.

· Must possess professional interpersonal communication skills, dress, and demeanor in order to interact with upper-level corporate management & executives.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· On-site / remote hybrid.

· Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, often with little advanced notice.
