POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Medical Record Coder Supervised by: HIM/Medical Records Director

Job Summary: Accountable for conversion of diagnoses and treatment procedures into codes using an international classification of diseases (ICD-9 and CPT4). Requires skill in the sequencing of diagnoses/procedures to optimize reimbursement. Ensures that records are coded in an accurate and timely manner.

Regulatory Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent.

CCS or RHIT preferred

1 or more years of previous hospital experience as a Coder, preferred.

Knowledge of diagnoses/procedures in accordance with ICD-10-CM/ CPT-4 coding principles for both acute and Adult Behavioral Medicine.

Ability to work with physicians in a collaborative manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

Basic computer knowledge.
