The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) provides statewide leadership of a high-quality mental health and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery system that is effective and valued by Ohioans. The Bureau of Correctional Recovery Services works with offenders in Ohio's prisons to instill an improved sense of responsibility and the ability to become law-abiding citizens.

Recovery Services-Alcohol and Drug Counselors use evidence-based treatment approaches in the treatment of offenders in prison who are in need of substance abuse recovery programming.

Duties of the Alcohol and Drug Counselor 1 include:

At assigned correctional institution, conduct interviews and provide engagement and supervised counseling services to clients.

Screen clients to determine eligibility for substance use disorder treatment services.

Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge planning with participants (documented in electronic health record).

Participate as an active member of the treatment team. Schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm [Hours may vary/including late night(s)].

Qualifications

On record as Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant in process of achieving 'Chemical Dependency Counselor' credential recognized by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board or other Ohio licensing authority with jurisdiction over professionals authorized to provide counseling services (e.g., Medical Board; Psychology Board; Nursing Board; Counselor & Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board); valid driver's license.
