Job Summary

The Enrollment Counselor I requires a self-motivated person with outstanding interpersonal and group communication skills, strong organizational ability and commitment of higher education within the context of a Seventh-day Adventist Christian environment. This position will work closely with the Assistant Director for Recruitment, Vice President for Enrollment Services, the academic deans, and the Admissions department to determine admission goals and strategies for recruitment.

Provides broad oversight for integrating and coordinating admissions, student financial aid, and registration and records; team with housing, international student services, minority affairs, and university relations in marketing and recruitment efforts; provides leadership to optimize the use of information technology for enrollment management and the development of a comprehensive marketing/recruitment plan. In addition, this position is responsible for the management, operation, budget, and administration of a designated territory. (The Counselor will be responsible for a designated area as assigned by the Vice President for Enrollment Services).

Required Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for (but not limited to) events in designated territory.

5-6 Academy visits in LSU territory.

Fair or visit to all out of territory academies.

Admissions and financial planning and document gathering for all incoming students.

Financial Aid admissions workshop.

High School visits/develop counselor relationship. Build relationships and gather leads from assigned local SDA churches.

Attend Christian College Fairs.

ISDA Fair, private and public high school fair.

Assist all incoming students with admission processing.

Home visits as needed.

Manage names, files and telemarketing for the designated territory.

Develop territory, complete financial plans for all incoming students from within the territory. Required to assist in the following areas:

Supervise student labor (16 hours per week) assigned to them for telemarketing and secretarial work.

Attend staff meetings.

Develop and maintain names database.

Assist other counselors/enrollment personnel with visits as negotiated.

Must develop with the Assistant Director for Recruitment a territory marketing plan.

Oversee and take responsibility for 1-3 major events each year as directed by Enrollment Services VP.

May be required to sit on both campus and off-campus committees.

Counsels students and parents about major career choices.

Attend yearly conventions.

Submit monthly activity reports to the Assistant Director for Recruitment.

Retention call and problem solving.

Perform other tasks as needed and indicated by the Enrollment Services VP. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; with one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community, with special attention on customer service skills. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to understand and manage a budget.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, with attention to problem solving skills. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

Microsoft Office Suite

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of student assistants.

Special Requirements

Requires extensive traveling throughout a designated area.

Valid California Driver License Wage Range: $18.98 to $22.25 per hour plus generous benefits listed below:
