Job Description

Enjoy your summer days outside, teaching children about nature, history, and outdoor skills! Ernie Miller Nature Center staff operates 2 large camps, 1 in the park and 1 in Shawnee Mission Park. The Outdoor Discovery Camps are licensed KDHE school-age programs run by our award-winning Outdoor Education Team of full-time Park Naturalists.

This position supervises other camp staff under the direction and in the absence of the camp director and leads children ages 6-12 in outdoor and indoor activities. Our Activities include games, stories, crafts, swimming, creek exploration, field trips, kayaking & canoeing, archery, bb guns, sling shots, hiking, nature and wildlife lessons, etc. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary: $16.00

Job Requirements

Minimum age 21.

Teaching, outdoor skills, camp, and/or environmental education experience preferred.

High school graduate or equivalent.

Some college preferred.

Must be willing to obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate (training available).

May be required to obtain KDHE Director's certificate.

Must possess a valid driver's license and pass driving record check.

Must be able to work all day outdoors, May 28- August 2, M-F shift hours vary 7 am-5:30 pm with approximately 40 hours per week.

Must attend a paid camp training held May 20 - 24.

JCPRD requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department.
