On-Call Juvenile Services Specialist 1 Print ( Apply On-Call Juvenile Services Specialist 1 Salary $17.29 - $24.66 Hourly Location Justice Building - Roseburg, OR Job Type Part Time / On Call Job Number 2021-00047 Department Juvenile Opening Date 05/04/2021 Closing Date Continuous Description Benefits THE POSITION Juvenile Department - Shelter/Detention On-Call Non-Benefited Position / Works as Needed / No Guarantee of Hours This position performs duties in supervising the activities of juveniles in a detention / shelter facility.

This position is responsible for maintaining order, discipline, safety, and protection of the emotional and physical well being of juvenile clients.

This position provides group and individual supervision of juveniles and provides other support services necessary for specific programs.

This is an entry-level position.

Essential functions: Oversees juveniles to ensure physical needs are met and that the facility is secure and order is maintained; provides on-line supervision of juvenile clients under the supervision of higher classifications; gives practical advice or guidance to juveniles and keeps other staff informed of such; documents activities and observations using a computer; prepares incident reports; consults with co-workers regarding clients; instructs, supervises and participates with residents in daily work or recreational activities; assists other staff in providing and documenting activities; anticipates hostile behavior of juveniles and resolves conflicts; reports to shift leader; assists in crisis intervention; instructs juveniles on rules and procedures; checks for illness or injury; distributes meals, clothing and bedding as needed and assists with other necessities; provides fill-in coverage due to absence of other staff or additional staffing requirements; transports juveniles as needed.

Reasonableknowledge ofjuvenile behavior and human relations;ability tocommunicate effectively in both oral and written forms; give practical advice and guidance to juveniles; apply a practical knowledge of program requirements and procedures to day-to-day activities; maintain order, discipline and safety; discipline firmly and fairly; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; estimate time and materials and manage time efficiently; make decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures; maintain progress reports and charts using a computer; keyboarding; transport juveniles; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, juveniles & their families, outside agency personnel and the public.

Requires regular and consistent availability and attendance.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of course work, experience and/or training which provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

At time of appointment, must possess a valid Oregon driver's license.

Desirable qualifications: Experience in human services setting, which includes or is supported by coursework in psychology, social work or a related field, residential youth care experience, certification of basic residential child care, workshops or other relevant training.

Work is performed at a juvenile detention shelter facility and requires participating in a work and recreational activities with the clients; must be able to apprehend and restrain hostile youth when necessary.

Physical demands may require bending, climbing stairs, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing voice conversation, keyboarding, lifting/carrying up to 60 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, running and walking.

Some driving may be required.

SCREENING & EVALUATION While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass acriminal history backgroundcheckas part of a contingent offer of employment.

Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment.

Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen.

Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy.

To determine if physically qualified to perform essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.

SELECTION PROCESS: Screening of applicants based upon minimum qualifications listed above; oral panel interview; extensive background investigation; physical exam and chemical detection screen.
