General Summary:

This position is an essential role in supporting continuous improvement, safety, and other projects at the North American DC with other duties as assigned. This position will play an important role in creating a culture of sustainable change using LEAN methodology, and the supporting framework, to deliver business improvements. Improvement projects will include a wide range of improvement initiatives including implementation of a new SAP/ERP system, improvements in lead time, capacity, productivity, process documentation, and safety.

This is a hands-on position that requires close and effective cross-departmental working relationships with personnel responsible for Project Management, Planning, Supply Chain, Material Handling, Inbound and Outbound, Safety, and Quality.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead and facilitate process improvement workshops including Root Cause Analysis, Process Mapping, Value Stream Mapping, etc.

Develop & implement LEAN/process improvement projects, sustainable 6S, visual control, Kanban, Pull-Flow & other Lean programs.

Assist with the planning and implementation of workplace flow & layout, as well as equipment installations, modifications, and moves according to Lean concepts

Identify and manage processes concerns with regard to safety conditions to ensure continuous improvement.

Create and keep updated standard work instructions.

Track and compile data for performance metrics.

Assist other departments in data analysis.

Create and maintain safety documentation and employee coaching.

Manage access control system in conjunction with building management.

Assist with the creation of purchase orders and invoice processing for the department.

Gather, compile, and analyze data and information on project execution metrics and conduct special studies and projects as directed.

Translate documentation to Spanish.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Attention to detail and familiarity with industrial equipment.

Standing 75% of the time.

Ability to lift at least 35 pounds.

Pushing, pulling, bending, walking.

Ability to follow proper safety procedures.

Exceptional time management skills; ability to successfully manage multiple projects / assignments concurrently and drive to completion in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to read and write in the English language.

Education and Experience:

3+ years of demonstrated experience applying Lean and Six Sigma problem solving tools and methods to drive significant performance improvement.

Comprehensive understanding of Lean concepts and Six Sigma quality tools/methods.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical preferred), or technical field required.

Certification in Lean and Six Sigma strongly desired.

Experience with SAP/ERP software a plus.

Advanced proficiency with MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).

Safilo/Smith is a warehouse environment where exposure to dust, dirt, heat, cold, and noise occurs. This warehouse is not climate controlled.
