Job Description: Miller Family Holdings is seeking a dedicated and skilled Deckhand to join our Contract Captain to operate and maintain our Riviera 72 SUV. As a Deckhand, you will play a crucial role in assisting with various tasks related to the operation and maintenance of our vessel, ensuring safe operations, providing a welcoming environment and general vessel management services

Key Responsibilities:

General

· Assist in the loading and unloading of cargo, including food products and supplies, onto and off the vessel.

· Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning the deck, painting, minor repairs, general upkeep, organizing fishing equipment, and ensuring the boat's overall cleanliness and tidiness.

· Collaborate with engineers and technicians for necessary repairs and maintenance.

· Assist in provisioning the yacht with food, beverages, and supplies.

· Assist in planning and executing safe and efficient routes for the yacht, taking into account navigational charts, weather conditions, and equipment. Operate and maintain navigational instruments and systems.

· Stand watch during designated shifts, maintaining a vigilant lookout for potential hazards, other vessels, or changes in weather. Monitor navigational systems and instruments.

· Assist in supervising and coordinating the activities of the daily/contracted deck crew. Assign duties, oversee their work, and provide guidance and training as necessary.

· Maintain clear and efficient communication with the captain, other crew members, and guests. Coordinate with external service providers, such as marinas and suppliers.

· Assist the Captain in various tasks as needed, including during docking and departure procedures.

· Collaborate closely with the boat's captain and fellow crew members to ensure the smooth operation of the vessel and a positive passenger experience.

· Safely handle equipment and machinery on deck.

· Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the deck area.

· Assist with mooring and anchoring operations ensuring they are conducted safely and efficiently. Handle lines and assist with securing the yacht.

· Promote environmentally responsible practices, including waste disposal and adherence to marine conservation guidelines.

· Other duties at the direction of the captain or boat owner(s)

Trip Planning and Management

· Reside on boat when in “away” ports to ensure vessel safety and security

· Lead all multi-day trip planning including securing slips/moorage, developing travel plans/itineraries, contracting additional crew (deckhands, fishing captains, etc.….), assisting with passenger logistics and other duties.

Safety

· Ensure that the yacht is equipped with all required safety equipment, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, and safety harnesses. Participate in safety drills and brief the crew and guests on emergency procedures.

· Be ready to assist in the event of an emergency, such as a medical situation or evacuation.

· Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols set forth by maritime authorities and the boat's captain. Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly.

· Maintain a vigilant watch for any safety concerns or emergencies. Be prepared to assist with life jacket distribution and emergency procedures if necessary.

Customer Service

· Greet passengers as they board the boat, assist them in finding their seats or designated areas, and provide safety instructions and life jacket demonstrations.

· Provide excellent customer service by addressing passenger inquiries, ensuring their comfort, and assisting with any special requests.

Fishing

· Prepare fishing tackle, bait, and equipment for passengers. Ensure that fishing gear is in good working condition and ready for use.

· Offer assistance to passengers in baiting hooks, casting lines, and reeling in catches. Provide guidance on fishing techniques and help beginners with any questions or concerns.

· Handle caught fish carefully, following local regulations and guidelines.

· Measure and identify fish species and assist passengers with keeping or releasing their catches.

· Familiarize yourself with local fishing spots, conditions, and fishing seasons to enhance the overall fishing experience for passengers.

· Practice responsible fishing practices and educate passengers on sustainable fishing and environmental conservation.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience as a deckhand or in a similar role in the maritime industry is preferred but not required.

Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.

Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to changing schedules.

Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the maritime industry is a plus. Previous experience as a deckhand on a fishing boat is preferred but not always required.

Basic knowledge of fishing techniques and equipment.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor on a boat.

Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Compensation: The compensation for this position will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

· $45,000/year salary

· 3 weeks’ vacation

· 20 personal days (in lieu of holidays)

· $100/day per diem when staying on boat when not at home harbor
