SUMMARY

Chippewa Government Solutions (CGS), a Sault Tribe Inc. (STI) Federal company, is hiring an experienced Bioinformatics/Scientist to support the Influenza Division of the Center for Disease Control, in Atlanta, Georgia. The incumbent will provide computational biology support and bioinformatics services to support division laboratory data management and analysis activities. Background in science preferred. Reports to

the Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

Leads the collection, studies, analysis, and management of biological data· Develops an experimental methodology for research and data collection· Identify, develops and implements new techniques and technologies for advanced analysis of complex biological data as related to infectious disease research surrounding the disciplines of biological sequence and structural analysis, computational genomics, evolutionary genomics, metagenomics and genome sequencing· Develop scripts and software for bioinformatics applications (using programming languages such as PERL, BioPERL, java, Ruby, Python)· Plan and develop SQL-based database systems, including NoSQL columnar-based database systems such as Hadoop or Cassandra· May coach and provide guidance to less experienced professionals· Troubleshoots problems.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Participate in the preparation of information for peer-reviewed journals, scientific conferences, and meetings.

Create and track the quality metrics for sequencing and variant detection workflows.

Develop, in collaboration with other team members, standard operating procedure (SOP) documentation for analytical protocols, script development, and application configuration and development.

Identify, develop, and implement software tools.

Lead the designing of protocols and processes to automate data analysis as well as perform analysis of complex biological data sets.

Responsible for the modeling and visualization of data

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY:

The position has no supervisory or management authority.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

MS or PhD in Biomedical Sciences,

Data Analytics

Computer Science

Engineering

Mathematics or other health-related field

Approximately 8 years of experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work will be performed in a climate-controlled office setting on a secure government facility.
