Palmer Candy is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic.

2nd shift will work Monday-Friday. Monday-Thursday hours are 3:30 pm- 3:00 am with Friday hours varying from 6 to 10-hour shifts. Saturday hours may be scheduled due to business needs.

Team Member’s will be notified by plant management if schedules were to change outside of the times listed above.

**Starting Pay at $29.50**

Overall Purpose:

Perform maintenance on all equipment and facilities associated with Palmer Candy, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, HVAC, cutting and welding, in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Job Functions:

Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance.

Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.

Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.

Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.

Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.

Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.

Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.

Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Maintains continuity among teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Ability to read and interpret pneumatic and electrical blueprints

Ability to use fluke, amp probe and other common electrical testing equipment.

Must be available for overtime to make repairs in downtime situations as needed

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting and/or post-secondary schooling/training in a technical field such as industrial maintenance or equivalent work experience.

Basic computer skills including the use of Word and Excel.

Preferred candidate will be familiar with the FDA, OSHA, and food regulations.

Equipment maintenance.

Technical understanding.

Basic electrical knowledge.

Knowledge of various types of power tools.

Attention to detail.

Food industry and packaging machinery experience is a plus.

A valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained for travel between plant locations in Sioux City.

Work Environment:

Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds.

Possible exposure to minor burns or cuts.

Standing for long periods of time.

Ability to climb ladders and work above shoulder level.

Repetitive motion.

Continual use of hands to handle, control or feel objects.

The Bluff Maintenance physical demands include Occasional lift up to 60 lbs. from floor to 34”; Occasional lift up to 30 lbs. from 34” to 67”; Occasional lift up to 50 lbs. from 6” to 52”; Occasional carry up to 60 lbs. for 10 ft.; Occasional carry up to 25 lbs. for 300 ft.; Frequent grip up to 50 lbs.; Constant Forward Reach; Frequent Lateral/Sideways Reach; Occasional Overhead Reach; Frequent Bend/Crouch; Frequent Neck Flexion; Occasional Neck Extension; Frequent Neck Rotation; Frequent climb 10”; Occasional climb 12”; Constant Hand Coordination; Occasional Horizontal Push/Pull 45 lbs. for 200 ft.; Constant Balance; Constant Stand; Frequent Walk. PDC Level: Heavy.
