Legal Clerk
ROLE
We need a Legal Clerk for the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Secretary, Departmental Appeals Board. As a Legal Clerk, you are responsible for managing acknowledgment orders, updating cases in electronic systems, maintaining case files, handling mail, including "Ready-To-Go" Decisions, and completing routine administrative tasks and reports on a weekly basis. RESPONSIBILITIES
Review and prepare acknowledgement orders
Enter new appeals and update cases in the Electronic Case Tracking System and E-Filing System
Create and maintain case files
Process incoming and outgoing mail including “Ready-To-Go” Decisions
Perform routine administrative filing and prepare weekly administrative reports
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Ability to analyze issues and apply laws and regulations to facts presented
Experience typing and formatting correspondence and legal forms
Proficient in operating a personal computer
Experience with various Word Processing software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Pro
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or one year of experience in applying laws and regulations to facts presented

CLEARANCE
U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass background investigation to handle sensitive information
May be subject to HSPD-12 credentialing requirements

Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.
