Standard BioTools is looking for a Hardware Verification Engineer who, as a part of the Systems Integration team, will play an essential role in testing, developing, evaluating, and troubleshooting of key sub-systems for new commercial mass cytometry systems. You will develop and manage requirements of various modules and assemblies, and produce design outputs. You are passionate about making things work reliably, safely, and efficiently!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, evaluate, and troubleshoot electronics and mechanics of modules involving vacuum systems, inductively coupled plasma, thermal management, and/or gas controls
Characterize module behaviour and interaction with other parts of the system
Create test setups, conduct reliability and stress testing
Analyze components, test results, and identify root cause of failures
Communicate findings to team via presentations and documented test reports
Collaborate with engineers to develop and improve designs to meet system and subsystem requirements
Participate in design review meetings
Assist in transfer of products to manufacturing
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics
5-8 years working experience in product development roles
Substantial hands-on experience in hardware testing, reliability testing, debugging, and troubleshooting electronics and mechanics
Practical and/or theoretical experience with EMI/EMC, inductively coupled plasma, vacuum pumps, vacuum chambers, flow controllers, pressure sensors, valves, actuators
Continuous improvement mindset
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Highly self-motivated and independent critical thinker
Fast learner with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team including mechanical, electrical, optical and software engineers as well as research scientists in instrumentation, chemistry, and biology
As a bonus, you have expertise in one of the following areas: ion optics, optics, vacuum systems, gas dynamics, or biology
