Job Description
The Banquet Manager is responsible for supervising the Banquet staff to ensure efficient and professional service. The Banquet Manager is responsible for the overall success of each function, from beginning to end, and coordinating with the Director of Sales or Sales Manager regarding expectations of the event; Works in conjunction with the Sales Team and Kitchen Staff to plan and coordinate all events, as well as attend BEO meetings to ensure the success of the department and the Events.
Almost never have Banquet functions scheduled on Sundays or Holidays, except New Year's Eve, of course.
Primary Responsibilities
Is punctual and dressed for work at scheduled time
Review the BEO's for menu details, special instructions, etc. This will allow for preparation for the function; plate setting, condiments, beverages, etc.
Makes arrangements for equipment prior to the staff's arrival for room set up
Assists the Banquet staff in room set up. Makes sure that all the guest tables, buffet tables and equipment is set up correctly. Checks the overall room for accuracy
Assigns pre-meal assignments to staff. Also, assigns the staff to their stations for the function. Informs them of any special requests or special instructions
Inspects food prior to serving for quality. Keeps an "open communication" with the kitchen staff. Informs them of any changes or special instructions
Prepares and serves beverages for the function
Assist the Banquet Servers as needed to serve the guests in a professional and efficient manner. Follow up on any reasonable requests while using proper serving techniques; Ensures professional and efficient service to the guest by all servers
Meets group contacts immediately so that they know who to speak to for any requests or problems
Responsible for training new associates in the Banquet Department
Adheres to all policies and procedures
Provides for a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules
Helps with post meal sidework
Assists in serving meals when necessary
Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience
Previous banquet function experience preferred
Previous experience with A/V equipment preferred
Able to work independently; Customer service experience
Physical Requirements
Stand and walk for varying lengths of time, sometimes for long periods
Lift and carry heavy trays
Read and interpret BEO's to understand and verify room set up and menu served
Carry out specific oral and written instructions in order to properly instruct the room set up
Talk with different kinds of people to give information, answer questions and provide service required
Lift, carry or push heavy tables, dollies of chairs and other banquet equipment
Move hands and arms easily and quickly to handle tables, chairs and other equipment
Pushing, rolling, moving up to thirty (30) pounds with frequent twisting, bending, lifting, smiling
