Overview:

Dayshift- 7A-7:30P, 24 or 36 hours per week, every 3rd weekend, vacation rotation

Minimum pay- $19.00 per hour, benefits eligible

The General Medicine Unit (H9A) cares for a range of patients which do not fit any other specialty (Asthma, Failure to Thrive (FTT), Hyperbilirubinemia, readmit unit for neonatal, first-time seizure, adolescent medicine). H9A consistently scores in the Top Tier based on NCH's Employee Satisfaction survey and is known for having a culture of mentoring and support.

24 bed unit

60-70% of patients are babies

PCAs- 6-8 patients at a time; Many feeds, labs, finger & heal sticks

High volume of patients on the unit; Average patient stay is 2-3 days

H9A consistently receives high customer satisfaction scores

H9A is a fast-paced unit that typically turns over 8-10 patients per day; with 90% of our admissions coming from the Emergency Room.

Responsibilities:

Performs clerical office coordination and administrative tasks as necessary.

Collects, documents, and reports vital signs such as: blood pressure or mean arterial pressure, heights, and weights.

Completes screening questions and documents all items into medical record.

Promotes general patient safety and performs minor specimen testing. Holds, positions patients and assists with procedures.

Preps all materials and supplies as needed.

Remains compliant with HIPAA, maintains professionalism and ensures confidentiality of patient information.

Ensures environmental standards are met and all clinic and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained.

Identifies learning needs and attends continuing education as appropriate.

Participates in educational activities offered by the business unit.

Acts as a preceptor of orientation and training of other PCA staff.

Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Must Meet At Least One of the Below Requirements:

-Active Ohio STNA license

-One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past three years

OR

-Nursing students can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program.

Certifications: Current CPR (BLS for healthcare provider) required upon hire.

Skills:

1. Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal and p]roblem-solving skills.

2. Demonstrated basic computer skills.

3. Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.

4. Displays a positive presence and interacts with all levels of staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Occasionally, 1-33% of the time: Climb stairs/ladder; sitting; lifting/carrying 41-60lbs, 61-100lbs, +100lbs with assistance. May come into contact with fumes, gases, vapors, biohazard waste, machinery, and power tools.

Frequently, 34-66% of the time: Squat/kneel; reaching above shoulder; repetitive arm and hand use. Lifting/carrying 0-40lbs; pushing/pulling 0-61lbs; depth perception-vision. May come into contact with blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases or pathogens, chemicals, and electricity.

Continuously, 67-100% of the time: Standing, walking, audible speech, speech clarity and hearing acuity. Color vision, seeing far/near.
