DESCRIPTION

Participates in and receives nursing report upon reporting for duty.

Assists patients with care including bathing, grooming, hygiene and placement of adaptive equipment.

Explains procedures to patients before administering.

Keeps patients dry (changes gown, clothing. linen, etc., when it becomes wet or soiled.

Changes bed linens and linens tight to avoid wrinkles from forming under bed patients.

Make beds (occupied/unoccupied).

Handles linen according to infection control guidelines.

Assists patients with bowel and bladder functions.

Assists with lifting, positioning, and transporting patients in and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, and wheelchairs.

Accurately measures and records heights and weights.

Accurately measures and records temperatures, pulses, respirations, and blood pressures. Graphs results on the chart.

Empties urinary drainage bags and records amount in record: reports any abnormalities to nurse.

Ensures call lights are within reach, and answers in appropriate time frame.

Ensures that patients who are unable to make needs known are checked frequently.

Reports any change in patient condition to nurse ASAP

Provides post-mortem care as instructed.

Assesses patients for any abnormalities in skin and provides for prevention of skin breakdowns, skin tears and/or wounds.

Turns bedfast patients every 2 hr without fail.

Provides ROM exercises.

Provide daily catheter and perineal care.

Assures patients are positioned appropriately for meal.

Meals served in timely manner and patients assisted with feeding if unable to perform self-care.

Keep water pitchers clean and with fresh ice water and within reach of patient.

Prepares patient room prior to arrival.

Patients greeted and oriented to room within 15min. of arrival to floor. Vital signs taken within 15min. of arrival.

Removes trash and linen from patient care areas and disposes of it properly at the end of the shift.

Performs clerical duties in absence of unit secretary.

Education/ Qualifications:

High School Diploma, or GED

Current CNA certification.

Current CPR certification (New hires will have up to 60 day from date of hire)

When offered - Attends the PCT class and passes (Patient Care Technician)

Experience:

Prior experience as a certified nursing assistant preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:

Employee is required to both sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Will be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Bending, stooping, are all frequently done in a workday. The ability to think and work under stress, to tolerate being subjected to frequent interruptions, and be will willing to work beyond normal working hours as necessary. Requires communication ability (speak, read, comprehend, and write).

Working Environment:

Works in a climate controlled hospital setting.

Equipment:

Ability to use Office Equipment, vital sign monitors, telemetry, bed scales, chair scales, wheelchairs, stretchers.
