JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Barge Deckhand, you will support our marine construction operations on our vessels. Taking direction from the captain/barge foreman and working with the barge crew and other team members, you will assist in the safe and efficient operation of our vessels and perform construction labor duties, as assigned.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
DECK OPERATIONS SUPPORT: Assist captain/barge foreman in setup, operation, takedown, and maintenance of barge equipment and machinery
MATERIALS HANDLING: Assist in loading/unloading of materials, equipment, and supplies to and from the barges, ensuring proper stowage and securing of cargo to prevent shifting or damage during transit
MOORING/ANCHORING: Assist in proper mooring/anchoring of barges and other vessels, including the handling of lines, chains, and anchors in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines
SITE PREP: Ready the construction site each day for the current project by cleaning and preparing materials, tools, and equipment. Load/unload, building materials, machinery, or tools, according to project plans or specifications or as instructed by your immediate supervisor
CONSTRUCTION LABOR: Perform general labor tasks that assist in the demolition, construction, and/or installation of seawalls, docks, piles, boatlifts: digging, shoveling, lifting, carrying, positioning structural components, and working with a wide variety of tools and equipment.
JOBSITE CLEANLINESS: Leave construction equipment and tools clean, organized, and stored in an orderly fashion after each use. Dispose of rubble/debris/trash and hazardous, worn, damaged, outdated, or other waste materials from work areas at the end of each day
MAINTENANCE: Assist with routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning/painting/ lubricating equipment/machinery. Identify and report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel for resolution
Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic understanding of deck operations, seamanship, and navigation principles.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labor in a variety of weather conditions and environments
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation to and from job sites
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience working in the marine industry or related field
Strongly preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish)
