Functional Responsibilities:

The incumbent will perform the following duties under the overall supervision of the Section Chief:

Assists in making substantive preparations for the political process;

Assesses and analyses inputs from various engagements to contribute to formulating substantive proposals on different topics;

Provides advice on process design, so that appropriate modalities can be figured out for engagements while ensuing the inclusion of diverse stakeholders;

Develops and maintains relations with government officials and political and other actors at the working levels;

Prepares and reviews briefing notes and talking points;

Participates in meetings and conferences and assists the Office leadership, section chief and other senior colleagues as required;

Assists in planning, coordinating and supporting activities requiring Office-wide involvement and participation;

Performs other related duties as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements:

Education:

Advanced University Degree (Master's or equivalent degree) in political science, management or development, or a related field.

A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience:

A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required.

Experience in working on political issues related to mediation in the Middle East in general, and in Yemen in particular, is desirable.

Prior experience in serving a UN field mission setting is an asset.

Languages - English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.

Language:

Fluency in English langauge is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
