Nationwide Children’s Hospital is delighted to launch the Research at IMBHR Summer Experience (RISE) program starting end of May 2024. RISE provides exceptional summer opportunities for undergraduate, postbaccalaureate, and graduate students, particularly from backgrounds underrepresented in psychology and medicine. It will run for 10 weeks from June 3 to August 9, 2024. Our research mentorship faculty is comprised of over 6 NIH-funded principal investigators. Participants will be situated within a dynamic ecosystem of pipeline programs spanning research internships through T32-funded post-doctoral programs.

Responsibilities

The curriculum will include:

1. An immersive summer experience in a research team working with neuropsychological, mental, and behavioral health data.

2. Learning about data capture (including in electronic medical records, as well as in structured survey tools and using AI).

3. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses some of the most cited, high impact research one could do!

4. Assignment of a postdoctoral or faculty mentor to support readiness for further studies.

5. Weekly research seminars and professional development workshops on active research projects, psychology graduate school and medical school applications, test preparation, interviewing and other relevant topics.

6. Didactics about data wrangling, checking statistical assumptions, analysis, visualization, and presentation of findings.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Research experiences will include meaningful mentored projects that build skills and produce a product suitable for presentation at the close of the internship. Each intern will have the opportunity to work on a research project suitable for submission to a regional or national conference on which they can be first author.
