The Structural Design & Quality Manager is responsible for structural design, concrete mix designs, quality control, and drafting. This includes the design, drafting, construction and installation of precast structures and components. He/she will also provide engineering and design input for new and upcoming projects and estimating purposes. Further, he/she will liaise with project managers and clients to promote successful precast solutions. This position reports to the General Manager and will manage Engineering and Quality Control for Northern Alberta’s Pipe Division.
Responsibilities
Provide structural design of precast structures and elements
Design of concrete and steel connections
Manage internal and external drafting requirements
Review and issue construction drawings
Assist with the technical support for preconstruction for sales and estimating
Collaborate with consultants with precast technical information
Provide necessary plant engineering, including facility additions, plant equipment, lifting and handling devices(Safe Work Loadings), etc.
Coordinate with project managers, draftsman, quality control personnel, plant production on project details and scheduling.
Problem solving for issues that arise in the production facility and job sites.
Maintain calibrations concrete testing of equipment
Attend client project meetings and provide engineering input
Conduct plant and site inspections for quality assurances
Experience in reviewing precast project for value engineering opportunities
Annual training sessions on basic design concepts envisioned for all customer/consultant-facing technical and sales staff.
Project specific designs for competitive bid advantages
Standardize engineering design and manage AutoCAD drawing database for standard and specialty products.
Assist with technical and operational issues related to product development, production and marketing issues.
Manage all aspects of the Quality Control Program
Direct the Quality Control team members
Interface with other Lafarge Product Lines
Enforce established policies and regulations related to Quality Control
Qualification Profile
Education:
Civil and/or Structural Engineering Degree
Registered or Eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
Eligible or Registered in the provinces of British Columbia and Saskatchewan would be considered an asset
Experience:
At least 3 years of Precast Design experience
Skills and Competencies:
Proficient in Microsoft Office
3 D Modeling
Auto cad
Strong communication skills - verbal and written
