Job Description

Job Summary:

Responsible for the completion of each weld to the specified standards using appropriate equipment and materials, while following the employer's recommended procedures. It's also important to observe applicable safety precautions, to minimize the risk of injury to the welder or other workers nearby.

Primary Job Function:

Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.

Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly/tacking and or welding using prescribed fixtures and proper work procedures

Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, shielded metal arc, and submerged arc welding, within the parameters outlined in work procedures

Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.

Determine required equipment and welding methods via established work procedures and apply proper welding techniques.

Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.

Position and secure work-pieces, using hoists, cranes

Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.

Experience/Education:

A minimum of 5 years welding experience

Candidate should have a basic welding aptitude, 2 year technical degree or related work experience preferred

Testing Requirements:

Pipe Fabrication Shop

Pickett Systems single hand pipe welder requirements are as follows:

Welder shall be tested on 2" monster coupon in 6G position

Structural Fabrication Shop

Pickett Systems single hand welder requirements are as follows:

Welder shall be tested meeting all code requirements for AWS D1.1

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.

Must be able to push and pull a minimum of 100lbs.

Must be able to work proficiently with hands and wrists and be able to grasp objects

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time

Must be able to bend and stoop frequently and crawl and work laying down in awkward positions frequently

Must be able to operate machinery and be able to operate foot controls on equipment

Must be able to work outside 100% of the time in extreme temperatures and among flammables

Will be exposed to hot metals, welding fumes, extreme temperatures while welding

Other Criteria:

Complies with Strike’s policies and procedures

Complies with Strike’s Drug & Alcohol Policy maintaining favorable drug testing results throughout employment

Performs job safely with respect to others, property and individual safety

Works effectively with others to encourage teamwork and productivity

Authorized to work in the United States
