About the Role

The Senior Facilities & Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing and supervising the F&M Supervisors in the daily/nightly maintenance and repair operations for Matson Terminals Inc. to ensure internal and external customers receive fully functional and safe operating equipment when required (e.g., container handling equipment, intermodal equipment, containers (refrigerated and non-refrigerated), and vehicles) and F&M related equipment. Additionally, direct and supervise inspection, maintenance, and repair activities for the cranes, crane support equipment, auto/equipment, reefer, chassis, and container shops and support equipment as well. This position also ensures facilities are maintained to the highest safety, environmental, and cleanliness standards, while complying with company external/internal audit requirements, and State and Federal regulations. Through effective supervision, control labor, material, and outside costs, while maintaining productivity/efficiency/effectiveness levels and the safety, morale, and welfare of all personnel.

What you’ll do:

Direct work assignments and supervise F&M supervisors and mechanics to ensure prompt service is provided to meet operating requirements and ensure compliance with established maintenance, repair, and quality control procedures. Evaluate mechanics knowledge and technical abilities to make work assignments.

Communicate and coordinate manning, equipment, and crane requirements with operating departments. Strive to maintain a productive operation with particular attention to the established fiscal year operating objectives and plan goals.

Responsible for F&M supervisor check-in and making daily work assignments; approving timecards; performing audits; and maintaining a log of facilities, equipment, and crane maintenance operational requirements. Also responsible for generating work schedules that align to the company’s operations requirements, while ensuring compliance to company policy, house rules, and collective bargaining agreements (CBA).

Responsible for understanding and administering the respective Collective Bargaining Agreements (Local 142, 100, and 4208) to act independently to provide consistent, fair, and impartial disciplinary actions; provide promotion recommendations; and adjudicate grievances and resolves disputes.

Responsible for the enforcement of the Stevedore Industry Committee Substance Abuse Policy Agreement.

Continuously monitor the work area to ensure compliance with company requirements, and State and Federal regulations while maintaining optimal productivity.

Responsible for investigating incidents involving damage and/or injury and prepare accurate and concise accident reports to comply with safety and damage prevention programs.

Understand and use company computer systems to ensure accurate information is obtained from and transferred to the databases for efficient equipment maintenance and cost control.

Recommend changes to the parts inventory (e.g., container equipment, rolling stock, crane, etc.) to ensure repair and maintenance is executed in an optimal and efficient manner.

Perform special assignments as directed by the Terminal F&M Managers.

Offer suggestions to improve any aspect of the F&M Department.

Must demonstrate computer proficiency; specifically, Microsoft Word /Excel and managing shop work in the company’s equipment database.

And these qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or demonstrated equivalent experience (emphasis on electrical or mechanical preferred).

Knowledge of automotive, heavy equipment (including diesel engines, generators, and hydraulics), welding (including fabrication and repair), and refrigeration repairs.

Knowledge of required crane or industrial equipment certifications, including local and federal safety and environmental requirements.

Two (2) to three (3) years crane or equivalent industrial equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.

Five (5) years supervisory experience (minimum).

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

May require travel or working nights.

Must be flexible to work and support a 7 day/24-hour operation (e.g., workdays include weekend & holidays and work hours include all shifts).

Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.

Extra credit if you have:

The physical demand for this position requires the following:

Ability to climb and work at heights of up to 150’ with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Lifting up to 50 lbs.

The annual salary range for this position in Hawaii is $89,400 - $121,620. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
