What You'll Do

The Memory Solutions Lab (MSL) is part of Samsung’s Memory Business Unit, the industry's technology and volume leader in DRAM, NAND Flash, SRAM memory. MSL’s vision is to solve key problems and optimize architecture solutions for Cloud & Data center environments. We are an integral part of Samsung’s strong R&D focus & lab innovation engine. We work closely with various Samsung teams such as engineering, product planning, and marketing teams to bring new innovative features, and technologies to SSD product roadmap.

We are currently looking for a SSD Firmware Development Engineer to join our team in San Jose, CA. The Candidate will be a key technical member of MSL Data Center Device Solutions (DCDS) team. He or she will join a team of experts in researching and developing ASIC/FPGA based innovative data center storage, and compute solutions.

Research Data Center storage requirements, bottlenecks and pain points.

Propose next generation SSD architectures, solutions and features to address Data Center storage requirements.

Work on SSD firmware development activities such as architecture, code development, validation, lab bring-up, and performance fine-tuning.

Collaborate with software, firmware, and hardware teams for new features and technology development.

Collaborate and work with potential customers and partners for technology development.

Participate in industry standards organizations such as NVMe, OCP, and SNIA

Location: Hybrid with at least 3 days in office in San Jose, CA office location remainder of time to work remotely.

What You Bring

Bachelor's with 10+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 8+ year in Firmware engineering or PhD in Electrical, Computer Science or related Science with 5+ years of Industry Experience Preferred.

Solid understanding of storage technologies and SSD Controller architectures

Good understanding of computer architectures such as x86, ARM, RiSC-V

Strong programming skills with C/C++/Linux/RTOS/Bare-metal.

Hands-on experience related to lab prototype setup, testing, performance measurement and debug of embedded solutions.

Hands-on experience with hardware board bring-up, server system integration and software stack integration.

Solid knowledge of software, firmware, development process, best practices.

Good understanding of one or more technologies and protocols such as : NVMe, PCIe, Ethernet, TCP/IP

Must be highly motivated with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Ability to work successfully with cross-functional teams, including coordinating across organizational boundaries and geographies.

Base Pay Range

$132,000—$236,925 USD
