Position Summary: The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Coordinator is responsible for the continued development, implementation, and execution of a complete Health, Safety, Environmental Program for the specific location(s). The HSE will provide ongoing & proactive leadership in all health, safety environmental related activities for employees, supervisors and managers. Additionally, this position will hold responsibilities in overseeing claims management (WSIB), wellness programs, and ergonomics, while maintaining and enhancing a positive employee relations environment.

What you can look forward to as an EHS Specialist:

Implementation of accident/incident reduction activities, including but not limited to the following: ergonomics, behavioral-based safety, standardized work, safety training and awareness, and safety auditing.

Take ownership in remaining up to date with the Company’s Health and Wellness programs and comply with all Health and Safety guidelines. (OHSAS)

Oversee, handle, and investigate all work-related incidents, including claims management (WSIB), with the goal of zero lost-time claims.

Responsible for the Joint Health and Safety Committee and its overall execution. Will represent the Company as Co-Chairperson of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

Coordinate regular workplace safety inspections and identify potential hazards. Track all open hazards and issues to ensure timely completion.

Ensures forklift training, maintenance, services, inspections, investigations, and anything else applicable is being managed effectively.

Provide all departments with technical assistance on chemicals, waste, and environmental regulations.

Responsible for environmental concerns, including air emissions, recycling, noise, chemicals, storm, and sanitary water discharges.

Provide regular contact to modified workers to ensure ESRTW plans are developed and adhered to. Utilize return-to-work specialists if necessary and ensure the financial impact is minimized.

Review and document all accident/incident investigation reports and develop corrective actions to decrease the number of workplace injuries.

Your Profile as an EHS Specialist:

University degree, or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety discipline or equivalent in experience. Some formal training in Occupational Health and Safety is required.

3-5 years of relevant experience in a similar environment

Level 1 and Level 2 JHSC certification

On-call availability is required

Basic knowledge of SPC and Control Charts

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

First aid CPR knowledge

CRSP certification is preferred

A thorough knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Industrial Regulations, Fire Code, and all other pertinent health and safety related legislation.

Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and EMS requirements. Thorough knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
