Position Summary

The Research Specialist provides tailored nutritional education, counseling, and behavior change interventions to adults with chronic conditions and contributes to the design, delivery, and research projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform nutrition assessment using relevant software systems such as the Nutrition Data System for Research (NDSR).

Provide health education, nutrition counseling, and behavior therapy to adults with chronic conditions following an evidence-based curriculum.

Lead individual and group intervention sessions in research studies.

Monitor and evaluate intervention progress and data collection according to good clinical practice (GCP).

Participate in research study activities such as recruitment and retention activities, protocol development, and IRB submissions.

Collaborate with Principal Investigator and team leadership to develop intervention objectives, implement protocols, and evaluate outcomes.

Contribute material, prepare results, and assist in writing scientific papers, presentations, grants, and other documents.

Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field required. Master’s degree in social science preferred.

A minimum of 3 years related research experience.

Possesses and applies advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods

Preferred Qualifications

• Possession of current Registered Dietitian licensure from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations and credentials and registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

• A bachelor’s degree in nutrition or nutrition and dietetics. Master’s degree in Nutrition or Nutrition and Dietetics.

• A minimum of 3 years of related experience in providing tailored nutritional education and counseling to adults with chronic disease.

• Strong nutrition knowledge and counseling skills in providing dietary and behavioral interventions for adults with various chronic conditions.

• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills required.

• Ability to work well independently and within a team environment.

• Flexibility with work schedules (including evenings and weekends) to accommodate research participants’ needs and preferences.
