Position: Construction Accounting Manager

Role description: As a Construction Accounting Manager, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial health of our construction projects. This position reports directly to ownership and will have a primary role in the daily transactional activities of the company, as well as providing key support to billing, reconciliations, budgets and forecasts.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Supervising and managing all accounting operations, including compliance with full-cycle general ledger GAAP accounting, work in progress (“WIP”) statements, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, budget, billing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
• Preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Performing and overseeing monthly close activities, including reconciling general ledger accounts.
• Preparing and/or reviewing all payroll activities.
• Tracking project costs, expenses, and revenues.
• Collaborating with project managers to develop accurate project budgets.
• Preparing and analyzing financial reports, and other managerial reports and metrics for ownership.
• Maintaining the company’s accounting system and files, along with the corresponding legal entities related to the company.
• Monitoring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Participating in insurance, union and sales tax audits and ensuring financial records are accurate.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• Proven experience with a construction company, with knowledge of construction WIP accounting.
• 10+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience with extensive knowledge of GAAP.
• Experience with accounting for transactions covering multiple legal entities.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge of:
• Illinois Sales and Use Tax
• Cost of goods sold
• G703 forms and waivers (partial and final)
• Construction billing
• Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work on-site in Chicago metropolitan area.
