Position Summary:

The Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois is seeking a Senior Research Specialist to participate in research activities of the Division.

This position is a principle contributor in developing specific research project requirements and is responsible for all aspects of the project from development through delivery. Perform complex laboratory and data collection techniques. May coordinate and direct the work and research tasks of lower level research staff.

The Senior Research Specialist will assist with activities for a funded translational research project in the area of lung cancer and tumor initiation. Research areas in the laboratory include cell biology, metabolism, and immunology acute conducted by the PI in the Division of Hematology and Oncology.

Duties:

Performing ELISA, PCR, qPCR, and cell culture. The position will also be involved in lab managerial tasks, which will require organization skills for maintaining laboratory equipment, the inventory for laboratory supplies, and tracking and shipping biosamples.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required. Master’s degree in science preferred.

A minimum of 5 years related research experience.

Possess and applies advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.

Proficient in specific lab research techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Science degree or higher, with a strong research background in cell biology and molecular biology is required.

Proficient skills in ELISA, PCR, qPCR, and cell culture is desirable. The ability to learn new research technologies, work independently and as part of a team is required, while knowledge of hematology and cell metabolism, statistics, bioinformatics and strong communication skills is advantageous.
