ACCOUNTANT

Sunora Foods Inc. is a Calgary, Alberta, Canada based food oil entity trading and supplying canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, olive oil and specialty oils to markets located in Canada, the United States and Internationally.

Sunora has been active since 1990, and operates under the names “Sunora”, “Sunera” and numerous private label brands.

Sunora is expanding its sales operations in Europe and West Africa, and we require an accountant that has an understanding of the edible oil value chain across Europe and West Africa, incoterms, and various tax regimes across the globe.

Position Summary

The accountant position will primarily be assigned to support export locations; with primary emphasis on general accounting (inventory reconciliation and marking contracts to market), margin analysis, and financial reporting and a strong emphasis on accurate and timely management reporting.

The position will also ensure that adequate internal controls are executed to support SOX requirements and sound management controls.

Core Functions

• Support all aspects of the assigned locations financial statements, internal controls, and management reports

• Fully participate and assist in facilitating a timely and accurate month-end closing process

• Execute assigned general accounting record-to-report processes across the Grain Division including mark to market calculations and analysis, recording journal entries, and executing other closing tasks and controls as assigned

• Responsible for preparation and review of various balance sheet reconciliations including adequate procedures and processes to ensure no material cross period adjustments

• Generate applicable analysis and reports to divisional, regional, and location management to provide clarity, understanding and explanations of monthly financial results (EBIT, Net Assets, etc.)

• Ensure that internal controls are defined, implemented, and executed to support company SOX requirements and sound internal control practices

• Be an engaged business partner to location commercial and operations team

• Support locations with technical SAP and GTM reporting issues; working with GTM Business Support and the Interior Accounting Manager

• Coordinate general accounting oversight – e.g. BPOpen RC’s, P-Cards, SAP Procure to Pay, CAPEX projects, etc.

• Provide support to Grain Planning & Analysis (P&A) functions for analysis of monthly results, forecasting, and budgeting processes

• Other job duties as assigned

Skill/Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related fields

• ACCA designation is preferred

• 5-10 years of experience with strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); prior agribusiness experience is a must

• SAP FICO core competency

• Experience with Incoterms related Accounting Process

• Strong Internal Controls Process within the Agribusiness Sector

• Excellent communication skills – verbal and written

• Self-starter with strong commitment to continuous learning

• Strong leadership competencies and commitment to Sunora's core values

• Strong problem solving, analytical and organization skills

• Able to work in team environment

• This position will require travel of 25% - 35%.
