Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.

GMC has an opening for Mechanical Engineer with Professional Engineer (PE) certification to support our Talent Team in our Atlanta, GA or Montgomery, AL office. As a Professional Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our multidisciplinary design projects, collaborating closely with architects, structural engineers, and other professionals to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions. Your attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to multitask will contribute to the success of our recruitment efforts.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:

Design and Analysis: Utilize your expertise to design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems for a variety of building projects, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and sustainable energy systems.

Code Compliance: Ensure all mechanical designs adhere to relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards, demonstrating a thorough understanding of local, state, and national codes.

Project Coordination: Collaborate with architects and other engineering disciplines throughout the design and construction process to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly into overall building designs.

Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports, maintaining accuracy and clarity in all documentation.

Construction Support: Provide technical support during construction phases, including responding to RFIs (Requests for Information), reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits as necessary to ensure compliance with design intent.

Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough reviews of mechanical designs to identify potential issues or inefficiencies, offering innovative solutions to enhance project performance and sustainability.

Client Interaction: Engage with clients to understand their project requirements, communicate technical concepts effectively, and provide expert guidance throughout the design process.

Continuing Education: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering, maintaining your PE certification through ongoing professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

7 years of experience in mechanical design for building projects, preferably within an architecture firm or consulting engineering environment.

Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to optimize mechanical systems for energy efficiency and sustainability.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Demonstrated commitment to quality, accuracy, and attention to detail in all aspects of work.

Knowledge of sustainable design principles and green building practices preferred.
