Our Story

The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting, which enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing for low- income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness. Job Summary

Under the Supervision of the Building Superintendent, the Porter is responsible for keeping the public areas, including the front and backyard, of the residential building clean, neat, and organized.

What you'll do

Regular maintenance (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping down walls, handrails, all surfaces, doors, and collecting garbage) of the following areas including but not limited to:

Common areas in the lobby, 12 residential floors, all offices, staff lounges, stairwells, elevators, activity rooms, community room, compactor room and laundry room.

Clean all garbage receptacles. Sweep and mop all refuse closets.

Sorting through trash to ensure recyclables are separated in accordance with NYC Sanitation regulations.

Remove Garbage from Compactor Room, located in the basement, to the Front of the building.

Sidewalk and front / back of the building is clean and free of garbage and hazards such as snow and/or ice.

Daily cleaning of the elevators (including, but not limited to walls, interior and exterior doors, and elevator floor tracks.)

Daily maintenance of all communal bathrooms in the lobby. (Clean all surfaces including toilets, sinks, and dispensers. Mop floors, empty garbage, assure adequate supplies of paper products and soap)

Assist Super with cleaning out vacant apartments to original move-in condition.

Assist Super with Emergency situations when needed.

Report all repairs to Superintendent.

What you'll need:

High School Diploma, or equivalent, required. Higher education preferred

Able to work in a multicultural and diverse environment

Able to perform job responsibilities

Able to speak, read, and write English (as required by DSS regulation 487.9.13)

Experience working with dependent persons
