Position Overview

The EMRA Leader is responsible for effectively managing the Ashville, Ohio maintenance and engineering teams relating to production, quality, recovery, delivery and machine uptime. This position promotes a safe working environment by demonstrating the highest standards of behavior.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Core accountabilities

Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations, and company policies and procedures.

Analyze severity and prioritize equipment issues to minimize plant down time as well as increase plant productivity.

Communicate instructions to maintenance personnel for desired repairs. Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and monitor all repairs for quality, methods of repair and cost effectiveness.

Screen all maintenance purchase requests, and work with the Reliability Engineer on availability, costs and quality. Investigate material substitutions for equipment and process improvements.

Inspect repairs for structural soundness, possible methods to improve operations and cost effectiveness. Conduct plant walk-arounds to identify and analyze corrective and preventive maintenance, modification and surveillance activities and to provide recommendations for refining and improving work package quality.

Interface and collaborate with Purchasing, Operations and Maintenance Planning to identify and resolve work issues. Schedule equipment for facility shutdown with Operations and Production Planning departments. Ensure maximum uptime performance of all production centers in the plant through efficient use of available resources and according to production planning priorities. Solicit technical help as needed to support the return to operation of equipment as timely as possible.

Develop and implement improvement action plans for each area of responsibility to ensure year over year improvement in critical plant metrics. Champion preventive maintenance program and ensure work order completion and preventive maintenance effectiveness. Oversee the overall equipment Maintenance schedules, advise on downtime requirements, and review breakdown vs. scheduled maintenance work, report-out monthly statistics!

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the maintenance department. Direct supervision of shift maintenance supervisors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Provide effective departmental leadership to encourage supervisor and employee involvement in meeting department goals.

Develop, revise and review maintenance procedures to facilitate and improve work package development. Verify work instructions are adequate and follow all applicable procedures.

Facilitate package preparation by preparing and / or submitting plant impairments, work permits, fire impairments, operability impact statements, and regulatory documentation.

Monitor and participate in control of maintenance budgets.

Managerial

Conduct meetings concerning outage days and provide all necessary paperwork to the supervisors and manager. Manages the maintenance group. Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree required. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience of maintenance-related experience in a manufacturing or heavy industry or a combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical aptitude, computer literacy, proficient arithmetic abilities, and safety training.

Required Skills

Strong mechanical skills, communication skills, and team leadership/membership skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience working in an industrial maintenance setting with union environment and reliability skills is helpful.

Decision Making

Must possess strong decision making and problem-solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved. Must be able to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case-by-case basis as encountered. Must have the ability and confidence to make decisions relating to role’s accountabilities. Must exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed.

Analytical Thinking

Ability to solve practical problems and take care of a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to recognize data needed to make decisions, collect that data, and analyze to determine direction in which to proceed. If the issue is beyond authority level or scope of work, must recommend plan of action to manager to proceed.
