The Opportunity
Fidelity Private Wealth offers high net worth clients a holistic wealth management experience. As an exciting new distribution channel, there are several growing areas to help shape the business into a competitive enterprise in wealth management.
The Tax and Estate Planning Director will be responsible for providing comprehensive and integrated wealth planning services and support to Relationship Managers and their high net worth clients. This includes face-to-face meetings, presentations to groups of clients and centers of influence, and content creation on value-added insights.
Recognizing the complex needs of our clients, the Tax and Estate Planning Director will take a holistic approach to identifying clients needs and proactive planning opportunities, leverage past experiences in tax and estate planning. The position provides the opportunity to collaborate with members of the Private Wealth client-facing team and internal tax and retirement research professionals. The Tax and Estate Planning Director will be a key contributor in delivering a best-in-class experience our clients value.
The core focus for this role is to support Fidelity Private Wealth and its clients. An understanding of Fidelity’s other distribution channels is an asset, and where applicable, provide support in tax and estate matters to be the benefit of the broader organization.
What You Will Do
-Deliver Exceptional Client Experience
Meet with Relationship Managers and their high net worth clients and prospects to discuss tax planning strategies
Present tax plans for clients and work with their existing professionals on timely implementation
Provide direction and coordinate the implementation of wealth strategies, including meeting with the clients’ professional advisors (e.g. lawyers, accountants, and actuaries)
Respond to inquiries and prepare memos relating to specific wealth planning matters from clients, client-facing team and internal staff
Collaborate on the development and implementation of wealth planning service standards and design complex wealth planning strategies for the unique needs of the high net worth clients
Demonstrate and promote our collaborate wealth planning process
Provide comprehensive and integrated wealth planning services and support to Relationship Managers and high net worth clients.
Partake in face-to-face meetings, presentations to groups of clients and centers of influence, and content creation on value-added insights
-Produce Value-added Content
Prepare value-added articles and reference materials on a variety of wealth planning topics as well as technical content for business development and client retention
Lead seminars and presentation on wealth planning services to clients, prospects, and centers of influence
Provide analysis on tax changes and how they impact high net worth clients and the Private Wealth business
Communicate tax and other wealth topics through publications, presentations, and media interviews
Coordinate to ensure consistency in communication on wealth planning topics with other internal Fidelity departments
-Support Internal and External Training Efforts
Develop a training program on wealth planning matters for Relationship Managers and clients
Train and educate Relationship Managers and internal staff on tax planning matters
Identify and research select issues relevant to the Private Wealth business
-Develop/Maintain Wealth Planning Service Standards
Define operational structure for wealth planning services with key stakeholders
Develop an onboarding process to maximize Relationship Manager and client experience
Create a strong risk culture by working with internal compliance and regulatory personnel to maintain and enhance the necessary requirements
What We’re Looking For
University degree or equivalent work experience
A professional accounting or legal designation
Completion of the In-Depth Tax Program (IDTP), CBA Tax Law for Lawyers program, Master of Taxation, or equivalent
Certified as a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP)
7+ years of relevant experience/extensive experience specializing in tax and estate planning
Demonstrated excellence in designing and implementing complex tax and estate planning strategies
Experience in working with cross border clients and their wealth management issues
Financial planning and experience working with family enterprise clients on advisory/succession planning is a nice to have
Bilingual in English and French is an asset
Have or working towards a financial planning designation (e.g. PFP, CFP) and family business advisory designation (e.g. FEA) or other designation such as the CSC is a bonus
