Position Summary

Provides administrative support and clinical assistance for Physicians, and patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The ideal candidate will be able to assist physician during examinations and procedures, which may include pelvic exams and other clinical procedures. Other duties may be assigned.

Assistants are skilled in the areas of intramuscular injections, obtaining vital signs to include blood pressure, temperature pulse and respiration.

Responsible for clinic patient flow, informing physicians of patients’ arrival and room assignment Accompanies and/or assists patients to the exam room in a professional manner.

Able to perform using manual equipment and Welch Allen spot vital sign machine and import results to electronic medical record in a timely fashion.

Assists in explaining test procedures to patients.

Administer medications (oral intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, inhalation, rectal, topical) using proper technique – this duty can only be performed after the MA has demonstrated competency to clinic RN yearly.

Schedules patient appointments, tests, and procedures using a computerized scheduling system; prepares appointment notices; provides patient instructions verbally or in writing in order for the patient to prepare for the appointment.

Performs patient appointment maintenance activities, as necessary, to assure patient appointment history is accurate.

Receives callers and takes messages as necessary.

Scan information into charts and print information from electronic records when needed

Prioritize and complete all tasks with documentation if necessary reassign appropriately

Task or fax procedural reports, labs & reports to referring physicians

Check task list and process messages if necessary

Education

• High school graduate and graduate from a Medical Assistant School.

• Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant required and required to keep current.

• Current in basic CPR/AED.

Experience

• High school graduate

• Two to three years experience of general patient care (i.e. hospital, physician’s office or ambulatory care setting) preferred.

Requirements

Covid -19 vaccination / Flu vaccine are required for position.

Work 40 hours weekly

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner.

• Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations.

• Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people .

At least Two years of Patient Care and administrative duties related to OBGYN. AthenaHealth experience is preferred. Bilingual is a plus. Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to: Some knowledge of surgery scheduling experience, attention to detail, independent problem solving, speaking to patients professionally and answering questions, patient care and triaging calls. Maintain a positive team-oriented attitude and have excellent telephone etiquette.

Other responsibilities include but not limited to: scanning documents into charts and other assigned administrative duties. AthenaHealth EHR essential. Scheduling appointments, patient check in/out and working with Doctors.
