About the Role & Team

As part of the Data Engineering team, you will be working with a team of smart, friendly, and dedicated Data Engineers, ML Engineers, and Data Scientists determined to develop high-quality data products that power core features of our app. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, a passion for data, a strong background in computer science, and an interest in professional sports, betting and/or eSports.

About the Work

Manage the day-to-day activities of the data engineering team, providing goal setting, mentorship, coaching, leadership, guidance and performance management and feedback.

Liaise with product management and other engineering teams to bring a new data science solution to life, including integration with downstream back end services

Prioritize and manage data-related projects cross-functionally from inception to delivery

Help with hiring initiatives across the product and engineering departments

Collaborate with the team to define, track, and meet SLOs

Stay current with trends, techniques, technology and other factors impacting data engineering as deemed necessary

About You

A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, distributed systems, and software/system design

Minimum 3-5 years in a data-oriented leadership or management role, combined with at least 8 years of experience in software development

Experience leading teams of 3 engineers or more

Demonstrated time management, project management and problem solving skills

Ability to communicate complex technical information to various stakeholders, including non-technical members of the organization

Excellent presentation and communication skills

Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and work with all levels of the organization

Excellent teamwork and team building skills with a proven ability to delegate

Knowledge of Python and at least 1 compiled language like Java, Go, or Elixir

Have built or led the development of distributed systems to solve complex problems over very large datasets

Experience with Kafka, Pub/Sub, or some other streaming platform

Understanding of tools like Airflow to orchestrate data pipelines

Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes

Some experience overseeing the development CI/CD pipelines for Machine Learning projects.

Skilled in testing and validating code, data, data schemas, and models
