Salary Range: $51,839 - $51,839

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Division of Nephrology seeks a Technician B to To support the Principal Investigator (PI) and research scientists in achieving the objectives of funded grants and contracts. The research involves genetic investigations into kidney diseases, both in humans and animal models, with direct implications for clinical medicine. This position offers significant exposure for individuals aspiring to pursue careers in medicine or biomedical research. The incumbent will acquire substantial experience in cutting-edge molecular genetics methodologies over the long term.

Responsibilities

Conduct standard molecular, genetic and immunological analysis experiments designed to resolve the genetic basis of kidney disease in human and murine models.

Prepare genomic DNA from human blood or mouse tissue for genotyping purposes.

Perform expression studies utilizing techniques such as Northern analysis, Western blotting, quantitative PCR analyses, ELISA, flow cytometry, and cell culture experiments.

Assist in the analysis of DNA and RNA sequence data, gaining exposure to the analysis and validation of Next-Generation sequencing data.

Perform animal husbandry tasks pertinent to genetic studies, including setting up matings, weaning pups, tail biopsies, euthanasia, and observation for phenotype development.

Ensure accurate data entry into the database and process all paperwork required for the animal facility.

Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Willingness to work with human blood, mouse tissue, and radionucleotides

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 3 months' previous laboratory experience, preferably with training in molecular biological techniques or prior exposure to rodent handling in a laboratory environment

Proficiency in computer skills, particularly with Macintosh and Windows operating systems

Other Requirements

The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.

Participation in the medical surveillance program

Work with laboratory animals

Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure

Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
