Heidelberg Materials is seeking a qualified Mine Planning Engineer to join our team in Irving, Texas.

The Mine Planning Engineer will work within the Competence Center of Aggregates and Asphalt (CCA) team, based at our corporate office in Irving, TX. The position reports directly to the Mine Manager within our CCA Team.

The position of a Mine Planning Engineer is responsible for evaluating mine sites throughout North America to determine the most economic and efficient way to mine aggregates. This position will design a variety of structures (pitshells, haul roads, stockpiles, etc.) as needed based upon all the parameters that impact the facility as well as support regional management with mine plans. This position will work in a team with other ‘in house’ geologists and mining engineers to produce 3D geological models and mine designs for evaluating the quality and quantity of reserves and resources at our aggregate and sand & gravel mines across the United States. This position will also produce phased working plans and dump designs to ensure the safe, sustainable, and economical recovery of the minerals at those sites. This position is ideal for someone who is self-motivated and enjoys problem solving in a group environment.

What you’ll get to do

Support all aggregate operations in North America with tasks including but not limited to: pit shell designs, geological modelling, resources and reserve calculations, waste development plans, stripping plans, construction grading plans, reclamation plans and system evaluations.

Partner with Local Management and Geologists to accurately evaluate quantity and quality of minerals to be mined.

Partner with other Engineers and Local Management to provide detailed mine plans and phased development plans outlining the key development and cost milestones in the Life of Mine

Produce reports, plans and tables to support short, mid, and long-term mine plans.

Partner with Project Managers and Engineers to provide necessary design parameters and volumes for capital projects.

Partner with Environmental Management and Regional Management to provide required mine planning documents necessary for obtain mining permits for Greenfield sites, expansion areas and renewals at existing sites.

Develop reclamation plans that will enhance the value of mined out properties for the highest possible sale price.

Provide assistance to Site Management and other CCA groups by evaluating the efficiencies of systems and develop mining plans which will assist operations when unforeseen conditions develop, as required.

Provide assistance in the land management and acquisition process.

Provide assistance to Local Area Management and Site Superintendents by gathering field data on various systems and operations, as required, to support site development.

Essential Experience and Skills

Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution preferred.

One to five years of directly related experience. Experience in site development and preparation of mine plans and supporting documents.

Engineer in Training or ability to become Engineer in Training within two years is strongly preferred.

Must be proficient in the use of Carlson/Auto-Cad and/or other computer design programs and mining or earthwork software, as well as ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Excellent team skills and project management experience

Accuracy and attention to detail

Experience in preparing mine plans and supporting information and dealing with local, state, and federal agencies is strongly preferred.

Willingness to travel across the United States between 25% and 50% of your time.

Preferred Experience and Skills

Experienced in gathering all required data necessary to formulate accurate estimates, plans and details. Producing reports, plans, sections, and details as required to support mining operations.
