Court Name/Organization: New York Southern District Court Location: New York, NY Opening and Closing Dates: 05/14/2024 - 06/12/2024 Appointment Type: Permanent Classification Level/Grade: CL 24 Salary: $51,003 - $82,952 Link to Court Careers Information: Announcement Number: 24-07 Link to Job Announcement Position Description The incumbent reports to the Docket Services Supervisor and will provide clerical, administrative, and case management assistance to the Docket Services Unit and the Pro Se Intake Unit.

Responsibilities will include providing coverage for the Pro Se Intake window, retrieving, sorting, scanning, copying and filing documents as well as distributing mail and documents from other court units including the mail room.

Additionally, the incumbent will perform some data entry functions; process work from various Docket Services email boxes and perform mailing tasks as directed by court orders; respond to inquiries from chambers, the public, and other court staff in person or via telephone; and performs other duties as assigned.

This position may require occasional travel to the 300 Quarropas Street Courthouse for assigned duties.

Qualification Applicants must be a high school graduate, or equivalent.

To qualify for CL-24, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to work at the CL-23 level.

This position involves heavy public contact and requires excellent customer service skills along with excellent communication (written and verbal) skills, strong interpersonal skills, computer literacy and knowledge of legal terminology.

Applicants must be skilled in data entry, word processing and possess the ability to type 50 words per minute.

College education is highly desirable.

Internal applicants who are permanent employees must be in their current position for one year to apply.

General Experience Progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates the possession of or the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

That work should include, but not limited to, filing, record keeping, and typing, public contact and telephone usage.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Court Operations: Knowledge of or the ability to learn court operations, functions, and organizational structure.

Basic understanding of court documents such as orders, appearance bonds and judgments.

Ability to use the court automated case management system in order to obtain or research information needed to perform financial duties.

* Information Technology and Automation: Knowledge and skill in the use of automated equipment including MS Outlook, Word and Excel applications, as well as financial and accounting systems.

The applicant is expected to use multiple web-based applications and maintain judiciary privacy and security requirements.

* Judgement and Ethics: Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgment, maintain court confidentiality and security requirements, and comply with the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees.

* Written and Oral Communication: Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) to individuals and groups to provide financial information and reports in understandable format.

Ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of stakeholders, providing exceptional customer service and resolving difficulties while complying with regulations, rules, and procedures.

Ability to provide and exchange accurate and timely information with individuals within and outside the court.

Specialized Experience Progressively responsible experience requiring the regular and recurring application of case management procedures involving the selective use of computer skills and use of specialized terminology, and demonstrated ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws.

Such experience is commonly encountered in law firms, legal counsel offices, banking and credit firms, educational institutions, social service organizations, insurance companies, real estate and title offices, and corporate headquarters or personnel/payroll operations.

*Specialized work experience attained in other governmental and private sector positions may be creditable, but that experience must be evaluated to determine whether the level of experience is equivalent to work at the specified CL.
