Cytotechnologist

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION A person who performs screening for a variety of diseases using a microscope to detect abnormalities of the human body cells.

They interpret cells collected using cytological techniques such as pap smears and fine needle samples.# They work in a collaborative environment with the pathologist.# At times the cytotechnologist will prepare the slides to be interpreted.

QUALIFICATIONS # Professional/Educational Bachelor#s degree in chemistry, biological sciences, or related field Laboratory training at an accreditated cytotechnologists program resulting in National Certification: #CT#(CLS),#(AMT), (ASCP) and currently registered.

Experience in slide preparation using a Thinprep or manual method Maintain the National Certification through College of American Pathologist Pap Smear Proficiency Program Must meet the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988(CLIA #88) as requirement for testing personnel in a high complexity testing laboratory.

Maintain the Quality Assurance for the cytological specimens insuring the screening and rescreening of slides by appropriate parameters.
