The Yard & Machinery Mechanic handles the maintenance and repair of company equipment, machinery, and small tools. A Mechanic is an hourly skilled craft position that works on construction equipment and any combination of the duties below. A Mechanic performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates. The qualified candidate will own his own tools and like to work outdoors. The qualified candidate will perform routine & preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles, trailers, heavy trucks, and construction equipment, including on-track machinery, either in the shop or at the jobsite, depending on the need.
What You'll Do:
Primary responsibilities include service & inspection of trucks, vehicles, construction equipment, and some specialty railroad equipment either upon arrival or prior to departure from the shop. The qualified candidate will be working alongside the Master Mechanic/Shop Foreman to perform these tasks.
Services include grease/oil check & change, tire repair/replacement, hydraulic repairs, welding (mainly stick and mig), parts installation, and other miscellaneous repairs on construction equipment.
Ensures company equipment, machinery, and small tools are in full working order and ready for use on a daily basis.
Performs general industrial maintenance, preventative maintenance on equipment in the shop and occasionally onsite.
Perform field mechanic duties when time permits, and maintenance is required on equipment that is over the road.
Responsible for coordinating repair schedule with operations team, minimizing downtime.
Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and making repairs to all shop equipment and machinery.
Coordinates maintenance repairs with outside vendors if needed.
Keeps maintenance area in clean orderly condition, with all tools and equipment in good working order.
Tracks equipment maintenance logs, ensuring that routine preventative maintenance is performed timely.
Communicates to managers and operational leaders when equipment is damaged or requires repairs due to misuse.
Ensures equipment appearance is clean and company logos are prominently placed.
All other duties as assigned.

What We Need from You:
Electric & hydraulic experience, welding, and five years’ experience in equipment maintenance/mechanic shop/truck repair, or heavy machinery maintenance experience
Record keeping skills
40 hrs. week
Pay dependent on experience.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
Vocational/Technical school training related to auto/truck repair & diesel truck repair
Familiar with a variety of heavy machinery and tools utilized in the construction industry
Knowledge of rail maintenance and/or commercial construction operations, preferred
Valid Driver's License
Pre-employment background check and drug screen required
Understand work directions and communicate effectively with operation teams and fellow employees
Excellent planning and time management abilities
Organized with attention to detail
Ability to repair tools and equipment, as well as weld/fabricate
Ability to read precision instruments, gauges and electrical multimeters
Capable use of hand and power tools, including pneumatic tools
Ability to stand for extended periods of time; stoop, bend, and crouch; lift and carry; climb on/off heavy mobile equipment safely; walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground, in varying weather
Maintain constant alertness to the multiple activities of the construction site, including activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment, including all of the equipment in our fleet that requires service
Work outdoors in all weather conditions (i.e. extreme heat, rain, etc.)
Work near heavy equipment and moving machinery with periodic exposure to high levels of noise, grease, and dust
