Overview:

As a Senior Program Manager within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, the role involves reporting to both the new Academic Chief and the Executive Director of the Administrative Services Group (ASG). The objective is to advance the clinical and translational research missions of the Department of Medicine. Responsibilities include facilitating and overseeing various facets of research, regulatory compliance, and communications across multiple institutes, grants, projects, and collaborators.

In collaboration with Professor Martinez, the Senior Program Manager serves as a strategic partner, assisting in the development and advancement of strategic priorities within his research portfolio, the clinical research core of the Department of Medicine, and Cancer Research Operations. Their expertise contributes to the efficient coordination and execution of research initiatives, ensuring alignment with overarching objectives.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the Academic Chief’s research portfolio and approximately six multi-investigator projects, as well as other faculty under the domain of Dr. Fernandez.

Develop an in-depth understanding of the PI’s complex portfolio.

Ensure milestones and timelines are met, providing high-level administrative management.

Keep the PI updated on progress and issues.

Strategically plan and develop current and future research projects and initiatives.

Advise the PI on strategic direction of new opportunities.

Identify obstacles and challenges to the operational success of the Clinical Core and CRO.

Serve as the primary contact for the PI at the scientific and administrative levels.

Oversee industry collaborations, various clinical trials, and funding mechanisms.

Manage the development and submission of IRB regulatory protocols.

Foster strategic collaborations and opportunities for growth within the department.

Lead the fiscal management for the PI’s research portfolio of about $20 million annually, coordination of budgets with ASG administrator, developing annual budgets, conducting financial analysis in partnership with the Academic Administrator, and ensuring compliance with funding terms and conditions.

Provide PI with a high-level overview of research finances to inform strategic planning. Advise on the development of financial plans and proposals.

Manage grant proposals, including drafting grant submissions, progress reports, and scientific reports.

Monitor budgets and spending; work with project leads to identify, analyze, and resolve financial discrepancies and issues; revise budgets and spending plans as appropriate.

Identify obstacles and challenges to resource management and propose solutions as needed.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

5+ years of related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree (MPH, MS, or equivalent)

Prior research writing experience

Experience working in an academic, public health, and/or research environment

Experience working independently with a keen sense of self-management

Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills

Capacity for creative problem-solving

Proactively manages and prioritizes multiple project activities and balance conflicting priorities
