Job Summary:

This position will use their experience and expertise to provide technical support to the Laboratory, Technical and Operations departments for the routine and non-routine testing of samples as well as the maintenance, calibration and operation of laboratory testing equipment such as Gas Chromatography, X-ray, ICP and other related laboratory analytical testing equipment.

Principle Responsibilities:

Work safely and efficiently in a team environment, using appropriate PPE and lab tools such as gloves, face masks, fume hoods and proper lab procedures.

Maintains a safe lab by ensuring proper labelling, handling, storage and disposal of samples and reagents, follows well defined procedures, recognizes limits and errors.

Highly mobile and able to multitask, plan an efficient workday.

Prepares samples for analysis and works directly with innovative lab equipment. Uses various computer instrument interfaces and programs to complete work.

Identify and resolve equipment and testing problems within scope of knowledge and training.

Performs calibrations and minor maintenance on assigned lab equipment.

Assist in training fellow chemists and hourly personnel on equipment and/or procedures as required.

Learn product specifications and physical properties, being able to identify abnormal samples and outliers in testing results.

Be proficient in SQC charts and charting, able to identify outliers and take corrective actions.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a science or equivalent related field required. Organic or Analytical Chemistry experience preferred.

Ability to work weekends and holidays required.

Demonstrated familiarity with laboratory safety practices and proper handling of laboratory glassware, chemicals and reagents required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required. Prior use of a LIMS system is a plus.

Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities.

Strong communication skills (verbal and written) demonstrated through coordinating work with other chemists and departments.
