Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Supervise the performance of milling, drilling, shaping, stamping, cutting, boring, sanding, and deburring operations on piece parts as required by work order and in conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· Follow established set-up procedures for all machine shop operations.

· Be familiar with the proper operation of standard machine shop equipment, especially sophisticated NC machines.

· Assure that assigned machine operators are properly trained and qualified to use the Company's shop equipment safely and efficiently.

· Maintain all shop equipment in good working order along with neat and clean workstations.

· Plan all operations so that they are prioritized according to the company's shipment schedules.

· Keep constant surveillance on the level of qualified staffing to prevent the machine shop from being the pacing item for meeting the company's commitments.

· Monitor shop equipment usage to assure recommended periodic overhaul and maintenance for prevention of breakdowns and unscheduled downtime.

· Advise management of new equipment that may improve the quality and productivity of machine shop operations.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

· Submit a weekly report on the status of all scheduled machine shop work orders, highlighting delinquencies and recovery plans.

· Submit a monthly report on the operational status of all shop equipment with recommendations for overhaul or replacement as required.

· Conduct quarterly coaching and training sessions for all machine shop personnel emphasizing proper safety procedures and precautions.

· Eliminate downtime on critical equipment by constant surveillance over its proper use and maintenance.

· Maintain a neat, clean, and well organized machine shop area that will give a good impression to visitors, in particular.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

· Accountable to the Production Control for assuring proper operation in machine shop area processes.

· Accountable to Human Resources for providing and documenting employee training and maintaining the vital statistics of the maintenance department’s staff up to date.

SKILLS / ABILITIES:

· Able to read blueprints.

· Strong leadership abilities.

· Ability to multi-task in an active environment.

EXPERIENCE: Five years of experience in machine shop processes. At least one year of CNC programming.

EDUCATION / TRAINING: A High School diploma, G.E.D., or completion of a related trade school program.
