Job Description

Location: On-site

Summary: Design continuous improvement air separation processes such as cryogenic distillation, VSA, and membrane separation. Tasks include selecting equipment, creating PFDs and P&IDs, and setting operating conditions.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

Develop and design air separation processes, including cryogenic distillation, vacuum swing adsorption (VSA), and membrane separation technologies. This involves selecting appropriate equipment, designing process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and specifying operating conditions.

Evaluate and select the most suitable air separation technology based on factors such as purity requirements, production capacity, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Analyze existing air separation processes to identify opportunities for optimization, such as improving energy efficiency, increasing throughput, or enhancing product quality. Utilize simulation software and engineering principles to optimize process parameters.

Ensure that air separation processes comply with safety regulations and environmental standards. Identify potential hazards and implement safety measures to mitigate risks associated with handling cryogenic fluids and high-pressure gases.

Specify, select, and procure equipment such as air compressors, heat exchangers, distillation columns, adsorption beds, and cryogenic equipment required for air separation processes.

Establish quality control procedures to monitor the purity and composition of separated gases. Implement measures to maintain product quality and consistency.

Troubleshoot operational issues related to equipment malfunctions, process upsets, or product quality deviations. Develop maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure the reliable operation of air separation units.

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as energy consumption, product yield, and plant uptime to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of air separation processes. Implement corrective actions as needed to improve performance.

Maintain accurate records of process parameters, equipment specifications, maintenance activities,

and safety incidents. Generate reports to document process performance, compliance, and improvement initiatives.

Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation, as well as with operations, maintenance, and safety personnel, to ensure the successful implementation and operation of air separation systems.

Provide training and guidance to operators and technicians involved in operating and maintaining air separation units. Transfer knowledge of best practices and safety procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Continuously seek opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and innovation through the application of new technologies, best practices, and lessons learned from operational experience.

Assist designers and drafters to generate installation and manufacturing drawings. Assist technical writers to generate operating manuals and test procedures.

Coordinate with other departments in the development, fabrication, testing of products, and design for manufacturability (DFM).

Provide engineering support to the production, manufacturing, and customer service departments as needed.

Create design history documentation in accordance with company procedures.

Comply with company policies, practices, and procedures.

Participate in proactive efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

Work effectively and communicate clearly (oral and written) with other employees, customers, and vendors.

Handle changing deadlines and priorities.

Review work for accuracy, completeness, and proper authority.

Familiarity with electrical circuits, electrical component selection, and schematic design is desirable.
