Responsibilities

Provides onsite administrative leadership to University Hospital during non-regular business hours. Facilitates communication between clinical and non-clinical departments to meet the needs of the patients. Acts as Incident Commander during disaster situations. Facilitates throughput by triaging and providing patient bed assignments from within the system and outside facilities, ensuring appropriate level of staffing to meet patient care needs. The AOD uses clinical and management skills to maintain accountability for management of fiscal and personnel resources in the delivery of services during non-regular business hours. Must be skilled in the provision of patient care to infant through adult patient populations. Upholds the standards of the system-wide customer service program.

Qualifications

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. BSN required. Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience required which must include three (3) years of first line supervisory/managerial experience. Candidates with a Master’s Degree in a healthcare or business related field must have five (5) years of clinical nursing experience, which must include at least two (2) years of first line supervisor/managerial experience. BLS required. Must possess a broad understanding of patient care processes, and the ability to apply principles of managerial and leadership theory. Cognitive and technical knowledge and the ability to progressively manage care delivery across the continuum of care required. The ability to retrieve, communicate and present data and information, both verbally and in writing, required, along with the ability to express or exchange ideas. Must be flexible with work scheduling. This position involves discretion and independent action within prescribed limits. Requires a sound knowledge of hospital operations and nursing practice, and exceptional leadership abilities.
