Term: June through December 31, 2024 with the possibility of permanent employment following this introductory period.

Location: Remote within the United States

Compensation: $30 per hour; Non-Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

At Outdoor Afro, our strength is the efficiency with which we deliver on our mission and support those we serve. We’re proud of the standard of excellence we have developed thus far. To support the organization’s growth, we’re seeking a Part-time Social Media Manager to join our diverse and passionate team.

As a social media strategist and content creator, you will help drive original, storytelling video content across the organization’s social platforms – primarily YouTube, Instagram, and possibly TikTok – that reinforces the brand’s Black joy in nature and 2024 programming. You’ll work closely with the Communications Director as you help us identify our target market and grow our 172K follower base by developing content guided by research and analytics. The Part-Time Social Media Manager will also serve as community manager, moderator, and/or administrator for Outdoor Afro’s social media channels, groups, and pages.

As an ideal candidate, you have a passion for creating captivating content and using data to inform strategy and grow an organization’s social media presence. You love the outdoors and have a strong desire to make an impact working for a not-for-profit organization. You are creative, analytical, detail-oriented, and highly organized with a knack for visual storytelling.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Acts as a strategic social media manager and natural storyteller who can help us identify our target market and grow our now 172K follower base by developing content through research and analytics to inform our 2024 MarComm goals

Lead the day-to-day planning, scheduling, and publishing success of monthly and paid campaigns that attract and increase outdoor interests of younger followers, male participants, and our male volunteer leadership

Develop strategic social communication plans, which include platform recommendations, implementation details (placements, formats), success measurement, and timelines. Activate those digital blueprints in collaboration with Outdoor Afro’s Program Department and partnerships.

Work closely with the Communications Director to ensure campaigns are seamlessly executed

Create and place paid ad social media campaigns for Facebook/Instagram and TikTok based on approved campaign strategies

Use Outdoor Afro’s in-house tools to advance targeted strategies and execute social campaigns

Optimize campaign buys to ensure budgets are spent as effectively as possible each month

Partner with the Communications Director to develop in-depth campaign reports that outline insights on media delivery, engagement, creative, website traffic, attribution, and key learnings

Act as community manager, moderator, and/or administrator (solo or in partnership with volunteer leaders) for Outdoor Afro’s Facebook and Meetup groups and pages, growing engagement and audiences and ensuring community guidelines are followed

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

3+ years of professional experience, with a minimum of 2 years of experience with paid social advertising

Proficiency with Meta, YouTube, X, TikTok, Linktr.ee, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn that includes a clear understanding of each platform’s core features, as well as a technical understanding of each network’s advertising capabilities

Proficiency with both Business Manager and Ad Manager dashboards for all core platforms, including ad placement, budget management, pixel creation, offline event sets, and advanced reporting

Experience handling a media budget and developing insights based on campaign results

Strong project management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously

Experience with campaign tracking and efficiency tools, such as Sprout Social, Google Analytics, Canva, and Adobe

Avid user of social media with a passion for staying current on the latest social media trends, capabilities, and platforms

Self-motivated, well organized, and assertive, with strong analytical and deductive skills

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills for effective client relations

Nonprofit, outdoor industry, or outdoor brand experience is strongly preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, talk, or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. COMPENSATION

Compensation: $30 per hour
