Position: Fall Internship - Ohio History Center Programs Type: Academic Intern - this opportunity is open to ONLY those seeking academic credit for their experience Schedule: Part-time, unpaid position from Monday, September 9, 2024- December 6, 2024Exact number of hours worked will be dependent on the hours needed to receive academic credit.

Location: Ohio History Center, Columbus, OH Reports to: Manager, Ohio History Center Program Application Period: Applications will be accepted until June 14, 2024.

About Ohio History Connection: The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories.

Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history.

This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.

Summary: The Ohio History Center Programs department provides engaging, informative and dynamic interpretation of Ohio's history with a visitor-centered focus.

Interns will gain experience speaking with visitors on a variety of topics and will work closely with museum staff on research, implementation and evaluation of programming.

Interns will spend roughly 60% of their time in the museum providing programming and 40% of their time working with staff, developing additional skills, and collaborating with other museum departments.

Essential Functions: Greet and welcome visitors and feel comfortable moving through the museum space engaging with visitors and staff Deliver educational programs for audiences of diverse backgrounds which may include school-age children, young adults, educators, seniors, visitors with special needs, and those for whom English is not their first language.

Continually be aware and keep informed about changes on site or in the museum Represent the site in a professional and courteous manner to members of the visiting public Interact with program participants and visitors in a positive and engaging manner Ensure program materials are properly handled and maintained.

Assist with the set-up and take-down of program materials.

Required Education, Skills, Experience: Must be enrolled in an academic program OR a recent graduate from an academic program (within one year) Majors in History, Education, Anthropology, English, and Theater are common, but other majors are welcome Comfortable speaking in front of groups.

Reliable and punctual Physically able to lead tours around the museum Experience with MS Excel helpful Required Competencies: Applicant expected to arrange for course credit through their academic program Some knowledge of archaeology, especially of the Ohio area, is useful.

Must be at least 15 years of age of age to volunteer without a guardian Must complete a background check and volunteer onboarding paperwork Must create and account, log volunteer hours and sign up for volunteer shifts via Track It Forward Must attend professional development and volunteer meetings, as needed Desire to learn about history and share their knowledge.

Self-motivated.

Reliable and punctual.
