The Haul Truck Driveris responsible for the safe transportation of industrial and commercial equipment to and from various customer job locations and branch stores.

This position involves local or long-distance hauling of equipment and supplies as well as loading, unloading, and securing the equipment.

Essential Functions:

Delivery and pick up of equipment for customers in a safe and timely, efficient, and courteous manner

Secure construction equipment and other equipment, by means of chaining, strapping, and blocking under strict accordance and established procedures

Perform pre- and post-vehicle inspection; Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition, before, during, and after delivery trips

Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles

Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs

Complete DOT required drivers daily log and trip sheets accurately and without misrepresentation

Perform basic troubleshooting involving malfunctioning equipment at job site and make minor repairs

Demonstration of proper and safe equipment usage to customer at the point of delivery

Obtain required signatures on rental contracts, pick up, and exchange forms

Assist other departments whenever required in an efficient manner

Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Basic knowledge of construction equipment and safe driving procedures

Knowledge and understanding of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations/DOT guidelines

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

Quality control analysis skills - conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance

Operation and control skills - controlling operations of equipment or systems

Equipment selection skills - determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job

The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions

Ability to read maps and operate GPS systems

Ability to maintain a clean driver’s record and diligent attention to safety

Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair

The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects

The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing

The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences Education and Experience:

Three years’ driving experience preferred, with verifiable over-the-road experience operating combination commercial vehicles

High school or equivalent diploma preferred

Valid Driver’s license with Class A CDL certification, DOT Physical Examination (Medical card)

Possess knowledge of and/or previous experience in driving delivery trucks, towing tandem axle utility trailers, and towable construction equipment, and operating safely within high-traffic or congested city zones and in small areas Supervisory Responsibilities:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 100% of the time

Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.

Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina

Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climb up and down ladders

Be able to safely maneuver and work underneath equipment

Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work Work Environment:

Requires working in a closed vehicle or equipment

Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment

Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions including extreme conditions such as heavy rain, wind, or excessive temperatures

Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable

Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment

Significant time spent in confined spaces and/or high places
