Description:

The Health Clerk is assigned to complete a variety of administrative and clerical duties, including record keeping, and primarily assists the school nurse and front office staff as time permits in administrative and support tasks. The health clerk may be asked to perform some minor first aid tasks, but the work consists primarily of maintaining records, organizing supplies, and assisting in the front office as time permits and nurse's office.

Job Summary:

Assist with administrative tasks in the nurse's office and front office as time permits, including data entry, filing, copying, organizing supplies, answering the phone, and mailings.

Enter physical/state reports information into the student information system.

Gather immunization records.

Contact all families who are missing required paperwork.

Collect and enter sport physicals.

Assist with classroom coordination for vision and hearing screening.

Enter vision and hearing data into the student information system from the Health Department.

Monitor the schedule of medications to ensure all students come to the health office at their scheduled time.

Triage students for minor first aid

Contact parents of all students with daily medications who do not receive their specific medication.

Enter all health office visits into the student information system.

Assist with making ice packs for the freezer and maintaining supplies in the office.

Communicate throughout the day about health visits to the nurse.

Assist with student absence reporting as time permits.

Assist with medication administration as assigned.

Work collaboratively with front office staff and nurse to cover other duties as needed.

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records, department and administrative work at all times.

Ability to pay close attention to detail.

Conduct vision and hearing screenings in collaboration with the building nurse as directed. If not certified for vision and hearing screenings, the district will assist with the training.

Health Clerk may be asked to assist nurses in other buildings. Qualifications:

CNA, LPN or RN preferred, but not necessary.

College degree preferred.

Computer proficiency - Microsoft Office, Google documents, and ability to learn district-related software systems.

Excellent organization and time management skills.

Ability to work independently.

CPR and First Aid certification or ability to get CPR and First Aid certification is required. Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, operate office and computer equipment; reach with hands and arms and will repeat actions with the same hand, arm or finger motion.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. In addition, the ability to withstand long-term use of computer monitors is required.

The employee may occasionally lift up to 20 pounds independently, or may be asked to assist nursing staff with student lifts (between 30 and 80 pounds).

The position requires meeting deadlines with unyielding deadlines, interacting with the public and staff.

Frequent typing is required.

The employee must be required must be able to read, understand, and provide direction.

The employee must be able to respond to emergencies. Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, on occasion, the noise level will be high.

The employee shall frequently use personal computing skills with web browsers, databases, software, spreadsheets, and word processing.

Work is usually conducted indoors, however, the nurse clerk may be asked to assist with outside supervision duties.

Working Conditions:

Salary: $18.69-$20.83 per hour (based on skills) plus excellent benefits including health and dental insurance, IMRF Retirement Pension Service Credit, paid sick, vacation, personal, and other benefits in a 7 hour paid work day as described in the North Shore Support Staff Association Contract.

Selection Procedure:
